MAPUSA
More than 200 diehard workers of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) from Mapusa demanded that the party should go it alone in the 2017 assembly election and contest all the 40 seats in the State.
Most of the workers also stressed that it was time to come together forgetting all the past mistakes and personal differences to bring the party to power.
“Last time BJP was saying that there was a wave against Congress. Today the wave is against both the Congress and BJP. The only alternative in such circumstances is MGP. Goa does not need national parties,” said Apa Teli, executive member and the treasurer of the party.
Teli was speaking at the meeting of the Mapusa MGP workers organised at Hanumant Natyagraha, Mapusa, on Saturday. MGP members Amrut Agarwadekar, Shridar Manzrekar, Bharat Toraskar, Vinod Phadke, Sadanand Kavthankar, Prabhakar Vernekar and others were present for the meeting.
Teli said MGP built schools and brought industries in the State and people were aware of its achievements.
He said the party’s executive meeting will be held very soon where it will be decided whether to have a coalition or not in the State.
While placing their views on the party’s position and discussing the roadmap for the 2017 assembly elections, most of the workers were of the view that MGP should snap ties with its elder partner, BJP and contest the forthcoming election on its own.
The members also said it was time for all like-minded people to come together to bring MGP to power in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Amrut Agarwadekar said MGP should make its policy clear on the language issue.
“Sudin Dhavalikar may be the leader, but Dhavalikar is not the party, central committee is the party. Everyone should work together to strengthen the party,” Agarwadekar said.
Goa Cricket Association, secretary, Vinod Phadke said it was time to bring MGP to power in the State.
Shridar Manzrekar, Mahesh Rane, Prabhakar Vernekar and others also spoke on the occasion.
