The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Vice-Chairman and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza on Monday said the Mapusa municipal market was limping back to normal but cautioned about increasing the number of vendors in the market.
“There are definitely more people coming to the market now then what was the situation a month back. The business community and the vendors have also agreed that there was a steady rise of consumers in the market,” D’Souza said.
“We need to restore order in the market and allowing more vendors in the market is definitely not the right way of going about with things,” he added.
The Mapusa MLA along with the Administrator Paresh Phaldesai, who took over the charge of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC), and the Chief Officer Kabir Shirgaonkar visited the Mapusa market on Monday.
The State government had recently appointed administrators in 11 municipalities after the five-year term of the municipal councils ended on November 4.
The MMC in its last ordinary council meeting held on October 27 had resolved to open the municipal market to pre-Covid times, with a focus to revive the economic activity in the municipal market.
Several shop owners had complained of lack of business in the municipal market after the restrictions were imposed during the lockdown.
