NCP urges govt to declare dates for civic elections in advance

MAPUSA

The Nationalist Congress Party on Wednesday urged the government to declare the date for civic election well in advance and also to supply the election roll at least two months in advance.

The NCP also questioned the projection by the outgoing Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council Ryan Braganza that Rs 90 crore works was carried out in Mapusa.

“The beautification of Gandhi Chowk and the installation of the Shivaji statue at the entrance of Mapusa were done by some private entities. The retaining wall constructed near the Mapusa church and the football ground in Housing Board was done through the GSUDA funds. Many other works are done through various agencies. So how can Mapusa council take credit for these works?” asked  Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP.

He said the council has also failed to provide good motorable roads in Mapusa.
