Mapusa MLA hints at civic body chairperson post on rotation

MAPUSA

Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza has said no decision has been taken on the term of the chairperson in the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) but at the same time did not rule out the possibility of handling the top post on a rotation basis.

“We have not taken any decision on the term of the chairperson yet. But something could be worked out in the lines of the previous council, where the term of the chairperson was divided among four senior councillors. The decision will be taken after looking at the performance of the present incumbent,” D’Souza said.

He said the decision to take the councillors from the opposition camp was done in the interest of development and for the good of Mapusa.

He further disclosed that all the karyakartas were taken into confidence before the five councillors were accepted into the party.

“An important city like Mapusa requires a stable council with the help of the right people that have joined us. It’s a proud moment that our chairperson and the vice chairperson have been elected unopposed,” he said.

The Mapusa MLA promised to work for the development of every ward and expected all the councillors to work together for the welfare of the town.

“We will work together. We now have the support of all the councillors since the chairperson and the deputy have been elected unopposed. We also have the support of our Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and State Party President Sadanand Tanavade, who have worked right from the time of the start of the election,” he said.

“Both the chairperson and vice-chairperson will work in tandem to keep the group united and work for the town,” he added.
