In a bid to streamline municipal administration, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday launched its new website, promising ease of doing business and citizen-friendly administration.
The MMC also launched a dedicated WhatsApp number to facilitate citizens to complain and upload photos of unattended garbage at the city's dark spots, promising to attend to the complaints and give relief to the citizens within 24 hours.
After launching the website, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat complimented the council for launching the new website. He said the website should help citizens get services from their homes.
The MLA recounted that he had introduced Facilitation Service Centres during his stint as Urban Development Minister around two decades ago to streamline civic administration. "Why should citizens be forced to make umpteen trips to the municipal building when they can get access to various services via a website from their homes?" he questioned.
Kamat said the success of the website lies in putting an end to trips made by citizens to the Municipal building for routine services. He lauded Margao civic chief Damu Shirodkar and the team of civic officials for coming out with the dedicated number (9112228200) to facilitate citizens to complain about unattended garbage strewn around dark spots.
In his address, MMC chief Shirodkar praised the team of engineers and other officials for creating the new website. Saying that any initiative will encounter teething problems, the civic chief said it will be the endeavour of the municipality to overcome obstacles that come in the way. He appealed to Madganvkars to use the dedicated WhatsApp number to lodge complaints and help keep the city clean.
