In a bid to avert a law and order problem at the Cutbona fishing jetty between two groups of boat owners over the question of fish agents, deputy Collector, Margao Uday Prabhudessai on Wednesday convened a meeting between the two groups along with senior police officials to resolve the row.
However, while the Cutbona Boat Owners Union president Savio D'Silva, advisor to MLA Churchill Alemao and other Union committee members turned up for the meeting, the rival group abstained.
The meeting discussed at the length the issue of the denial of entry for new fish agents as demanded by the rival group of boat owners. Savio and the union members firmly ruled out the question of allotting separate loading facility for any group of boat owners at the Cutbona fishing jetty. They pointed out that fish agents have been doing business by following the queue system, adding that there would be no departure from the system.
After the meeting, Churchill Alemao told the media that the fisheries department is further complicating the matter at Cutbona, adding that he has already briefed the Fisheries Minister, Vinod Palienkar on the issue.
Deputy Collector, Uday Prabhudesai informed that the meeting was specifically called to iron out differences amongst the two groups of boat owners in order to avert law and order situation at the Cutbona jetty. "Our main concern is that there should be no law and order problem at the jetty. Since the rival group of boat owners did not turn up for the meeting, the queue system will be followed at the jetty", Prabhudesai said.
He said the police will review the situation at the fishing jetty from time to time to ensure there's no law and order problem.
