MARGAO
The annual Eid-e-Milad ‘julus’ procession taken out by the Muslim community in the commercial capital passed off peacefully.
Thousands of Muslims from various parts of Salcete joined the procession at the Jamia Masjid, Malbhat, before it made its way through Pajifond, Hospicio and Ravindra Bhavan.
The devotees carried flags, including the national tri-colour as they celebrated the annual event with religious fervour.
The Goa police maintained a strict vigil all along the procession route as well as in the communally sensitive Gogol and Rumdamol housing boards.
A massive security net was thrown on the route with the Goa police deploying around 550 police personnel in the city, besides around 75 traffic personnel.
District Police Chief SP Arvind Gawas said though the day was very hectic for the Goa police, the situation passed off peacefully.
SP Gawas and DySP Serafino Dias made their presence felt at the Gogol and Rumdamol housing boards on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the procession to ensure there’s no untoward incident in the communally sensitive areas.
