There’s good news in store for the stakeholders operating at Goa’s lone wholesale fish market.
The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has decided to spruce up the wholesale fish market to facilitate the fishermen and fish traders to conduct business and create a conducive environment for visitors to walk inside the market.
This was decided after SGPDA Chairman, MLA Krishna Daji Salkar along with PDA Member Secretary Sheikh Ali and staff members inspected the market, wherein they saw for themselves the pathetic condition of the wholesale fish market.
The SGPDA Chairman informed that the work on cleaning the market will commence on Friday, wherein the pavements and footpath will be cleaned up first. “It has been decided to improve the area with construction material to clear the sludge and leachate from the market,” he said.
Saying that the measures mulled at the market are temporary to give relief to the stakeholders till the completion of the ongoing work on the new market complex, the SGPDA Chairman said the PDA will ensure that a conducive environment is created in the market for the benefit of the stakeholders, including the fish buyers.
As far as vehicular parking is concerned, Salkar said that he has requested Margao Traffic Cell in-charge, PI Gautam Salunke to deploy police personnel on the wholesale fish market road in the morning to regulate traffic and ensure there’s no blockage of traffic on the road.
