The 38-year old native of Delhi who was convicted by the South Goa Sessions Court for the murder of a native of Belagavi-Karnataka near the KTC bus stand, Margao has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Court has convicted and sentenced the accused OmPrakash Chand, a native of Pahadgung Delhi, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code to undergo imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. The fine, if recovered, shall be paid to the legal representatives of the deceased, if any. In default of payment of fine, the accused will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment of one year.
The period since the time the accused was in custody shall be set off for any future legal purposes.
In this case, the Fatorda police led by then PI Navlesh Desai had charged the accused for assaulting the deceased Shivappa on his head with laterite stone with force, thereby causing his instant death.
