MARGAO
Margao Municipal garbage workers on Friday drew the attention of the Civic Chief to their plight in handling garbage, right from the collection of waste from the city to its disposal at Sonsodo.
The MMC Chief Lyndon Pereira descended at the Municipal Garage at the Old market to hear the grievances of the workers engaged in the work of collection and disposal of garbage.
The workers pointed out that the road leading to the Sonsodo waste treatment plant has turned unmotorable and demanded early repairs and restoration of the road at the earliest.
After giving a patient hearing, the MMC Chief assured the workers that the road leading to the garbage treatment plant will be taken up on priority, pointing out that the Director of Municipal Administration has given sanction for the repair of the road.
The MMC later told the media that his visit was aimed at streamlining the system in the collection and disposal of the waste.
“I have told the workers to deploy rickshaws in both Margao and Fatorda area in the evenings to keep the main roads clean and without litter,” he said, adding that he has taken cognizance of the problems faced by the workers during the collection and disposal of the daily waste.
