The Naval Children School at Chicalim won the national event Toycathon 2021, an event under the initiative of the Central government conceived to challenge India’s innovative minds to conceptualise novel toy and games based on India’s civilisation, history, culture, mythology and ethos.

The Navy Children School team from Std 9, consisting of Krishang Joshi, Mayank Yadav and Tanishq Bhatnagar, ranked first in the digital category.

The finalists of the event were lauded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via live interaction.

There were over 17,000 ideas that participated pan-India and a Rs 50 lakh prize money was at stake.

On an earlier occasion, the same team had won the hackathon 2020 Goa in the Data hackathon category and second position in the solution to a problem statement category.

According to details on the government’s Toycathon website, India is not among the leading developers and manufacturers of toys, despite being home of many globally popular games like Chess, Ludo, Snakes and Ladders.

Currently, India’s toy market stands at around 1.5 billion USD, which primarily is dominated by imported toys. Moreover, the majority of these toys do not represent Indian heritage, civilisation and value systems.

Under the ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Toycathon-2021 has been conceived to challenge India’s innovative minds to conceptualise novel toy and games based on India’s civilisation, history, culture, mythology and ethos.

Toycathon is a unique opportunity for students, teachers, start-ups and toy experts/professionals in India to submit their innovative toys/games concepts and win a large number of prizes worth Rs 50 lakh.

Toycathon is an inter-ministerial initiative organised by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell with support from the All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
