Women organisations on Thursday demanded that the Goa government deploy exclusive buses for women on major routes such as Margao, Panaji, Vasco, Ponda and Mapusa in order to protect their safety in the wake of the Kolkata rape-murder incident.
They also demanded immediate implementation of the 33 per cent reservations for women in Parliament and State Assemblies to make the voice of women heard in the government.
The organisations staged a protest in front of the Margao Municipal building on Thursday to demand justice for the doctor raped and murdered in Kolkata. Besides IMA, Margao, members of the Young Women Christian Association, Mahila Mandal Margao, besides members of the Inner Wheel Club participated in the protest.
Bailancho Ekvott convenor Auda Viegas said the government might have enacted stringent law to ensure the safety and security of women, but pointed out that the laws will remain on paper if not implemented in both letter and spirit.
She demanded that the government prominently display the numbers and names of committee members for the benefit of women facing sexual harassment at work place.
Dr Deepa Correia, who represented the YWCA demanded property safety and security for the women at work places.
In her address, IMA representative Dr Babita Prabhudesai called for deployment of exclusive buses for women to ensure their safe travel.
Saying the 33 per cent reservation bill for women is lying under the wings of secrecy, Babita demanded immediate implementation of the reservation Bill to give 33 per cent reservations for women in Parliament and State Assemblies.
