Pay parking and access fees have been reintroduced at the Margao railway station.
MARGAO
Pay parking has resumed at Margao railway station, with Konkan Railway temporarily hiring a contractor to collect fees for two months until the e-auction of the parking fee collection contract is completed.
KRC Senior Officer, Public Relations, Baban Ghatge, however, said the KRC has enhanced the timing of the access/parking at the station from 10 to 15 minutes. The access parking fees had generated a lot of heat at the Margao railway station when it was introduced around two months ago, triggering violent incidents.
Ghatge informed that the KRC terminated the pay parking fee collection contract after the contractor failed to pay the fees in instalments. The corporation has now engaged a contractor as a stopgap arrangement pending the appointment of a full-fledged contractor after floating e-auction.
“The parking fee collection tender will be awarded to the highest bidder. We intend to rope in the contractor from May 1. Till such time, the stopgap contractor will continue to collect the parking fees notified by the Corporation”, he said.
Regarding the controversial access/parking fees introduced two months ago, Ghatge mentioned that Konkan Railway has adjusted the access timings from 10 to 15 minutes at Margao railway station.
