Margao Ravindra Bhavan in dire need of spruce up, CM told

MARGAO
Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, has knocked the doors of the government by sending an SOS to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to spruce up the infrastructure at the cultural institution ahead of the International Seafood Festival scheduled at the venue in January 2018.
The Chief Minister promised to help and asked Ravindra Bhavan Chairman Prashant Naik to prepare a detail proposal, while promising to hold a meeting on Wednesday to clear the same.
The Chief Minister inspected the Ravindra Bhavan annex building and the audio studio, which remains incomplete because of a vigilance probe into the construction. The bhavan Chairman told the Chief Minister that while an amount of Rs 16 lakh was spent on the audio studio, the project remains incomplete because of the vigilance inquiry.
The CM promised to work out a solution to the entire issue, saying he would find out the status of the vigilance inquiry into the audio studio before taking a final call.
The TCP Minister brought to the notice of the Chief Minister the wide cracks that have surfaced on the Ravindra Bhavan wall, with Parrikar attributing the same to the lack of maintenance during the last five years.
In fact, Parrikar said the vigilance had taken cognizance of the Ravindra Bhavan construction since the renovation project was bifurcated into many works to avoid tendering.
Prashant Naik later told the media that the Chief Minister has been asked to take up the renovation work on top priority in view of the International Seafood Festival scheduled around January-end next year. "We are expecting around 300-400 international delegates to attend the festival. It would send a wrong picture if the festival is held without the renovation. We have asked the government to take short-term measures including painting of the entire complex, repair of toilets and pavers. Long-term measures such as repairing the projector room, open stage, black box, studio, besides repairs to the main auditorium can be taken up in Phase II," he said.
Naik said the Indira Gandhi Centre for Culture is ready to refurbish the ground floor of the Annex building if the government gives the green signal to take up the work.
