Goa Forward Party supremo and Minister for TCP Vijai Sardesai on Monday made a  strong plea for the need to have a mid-term assessment of the  performance of cabinet ministers in the State.

Sardesai said his own party would be conducting an assessment about programmes and targets set up by it and their outcome till now. “I feel there should be a mid-term assessment of performance of ministers,” Sardesai told reporters.

Besides Sardesai, both of the GFP legislators namely, Vinoda Paliencar and Jayesh Salgaonkar, are ministers in the Goa cabinet.

Sardesai’s statement assumes significance in light of reports that  Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is contemplating a cabinet re-shuffle.

The tweaking of the cabinet is expected to be executed after he returns  from the United States where he is scheduled to proceed for a health  check-up, reports said.

The Goa Forward Party supremo also stated that the party is aiming to expand its base in several constituencies across the state.

“We are not going to be a party of three MLAs after the next Goa assembly elections. We are trying to promote good leadership which is from the younger generation and from every section of the society,” Sardesai said.

He said there should be retirement age in politics.

“Goans should decide whether or not they want young leadership. There should be discussion on the age of retirement. I have always been saying and even now I am saying - there should be alternative to the current leadership,” the state Agriculture Minister said.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Sardesai attacked the MGP saying they had forgotten reforms undertaken by Bhausaheb Bandodkar and flayed the Congress for its status

quo position on ‘policy paralysis’.

Praising the first chief minister of Goa Dayanand (Bhausaheb) Bandodkar, Sardesai said he brought many reforms in his political career, which we can see even today in the field of education.

“When we go ahead to achieve progress, we should also look into history. We know that from Ponda itself Bandodkar initially progressed with pace. He brought in a revolution through various reforms. Bahujan Samaj was united by Bhausaheb. He gave them power and also gave good services.” Sardesai said.

He further said that Bhausaheb brought good legislations and focused on education. But after him MGP failed to bring in reforms.

Sardesai also attacked the Congress, saying, “the oldest regional party has forgotten what reforms mean. Their government functioned in a status quo position. This helped only their children to come in politics. Senior Congress leaders are making new generation of ‘leaders’ by bringing their children in, although they are not capable. Can we surrender the future of Goa in the hands of such persons”, Sardesai asked.

Justifying his decision of supporting BJP for government formation, Sardesai said gaining power is important in politics and hence it was their right move to support BJP.
