A city-based scribe and his family had to undergo a one-hour-and-half hour-long ordeal after they were trapped in a building lift following a power failure that attracted the attention of none other than CM Pramod Sawant and Opposition leader Digambar Kamat on Sunday.
While the authorities were found wanting in immediately rushing to the rescue of the beleaguered family, the CM personally spoke to the scribe and promised action.
It was only when the fire brigade reached the spot at around 12.30 pm and when the plan was underway to open the lift, power was restored, bringing a sigh of relief to the family and those who were on the spot.
The incident occurred at around 11 am on Sunday when the scribe Vishal Naik along with his wife and child had just entered the lift in his office building in the city here, without realizing the ordeal awaiting him and his family.
After the lift got stuck, Vishal called all and sundry, including the fire brigade and the power officials, but in vain. He tried calling up Power Minister Nilesh Cabral but since there was no reply, he decided to tag the photo of the family trapped in the lift on Facebook.
Sources said Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat first spotted the Facebook post and deputed his close aid to find out the exact situation. Soon thereafter came a call from the CM’s office and later from the CM himself, who promised action for any lapses.
When the fire brigade reached the spot around and preparations were underway outside, power supply was restored.
