The launch of Parra Youth Wing by a sprightly lad on Sunday evening could have easily passed off as an ordinary event.

But the lad, Daniel Lobo, is not an ordinary youth but happens to be the son of influential political parents “ Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo and Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo.

The 20-something Daniel was quick to dispel doubts that he was following in the footsteps of his parents but in the same breath said he wanted to offer a platform for the youth to resolve issues/problems affecting their villages.

“Politics is another story. It’s is a different world. It’s not something we should be thinking of at the moment. We want to solve issues in the village. Village problems are our priority at the moment,” Daniel said to The Goan.

Conscious of being overshadowed by his parents’ political background and their affiliation to the ruling BJP, he sought to dispel any connection of the launch of the Parra Youth Wing to politics.

“I told my parents what I was doing. This is not based on any sort of political party. It’s a youth wing… away from politics. We are for the youth, by the youth and will always be with the youth…till we reach an age…,” he said with elan.

For the record, junior Lobo’s parents were not present for the launch of the Parra Youth Wing but the presence of around 100 youth at the event was impressive, to say the least.

He said that nobody was leading the Parra Youth Wing for the moment but a core committee was in place.

“I am not heading the organization at the moment but I have taken the initiative to form the group. Each and every core committee member will get a chance to be the president and we will have it in rotation basis so that there is no sense of inequality in the organization,” he said.

He nodded when asked whether there were plans to form more such youth wings in other villages.

“I have encouraged others to hold/form such wings because I felt that our youth have a lot of innovative ideas. We have a lot of issues as well. If we don’t have a platform/voice it cannot be addressed and the ideas cannot be implemented,” he said.

Daniel has completed his 12th and had recently moved to England to study BSc in International Business.

“I have come down for good and will be completing my studies in Goa,” he said.

He said that he has been an avid fan of football and has played for Sesa Football Academy for three years.
