The gram sabha of Penha de Franca held on Sunday to finalise the Coastal Zone Management Plan which was attended by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte adopted the following two resolutions: that salinity should not be the criteria to decide the High Tide Line and buffer zone and that buffer zone shown at Ekodi Manas should not be considered as these are fields submerged in saline water due to damage to the bandhs.
Khaunte suggested the panchayat keep the draft plan prepared by the panchayat open to the public till Wednesday morning and invite suggestions from the general public so that these may be placed before the committee to be formed for the purpose.
Khaunte also suggested that the panchayat get the land use from the Survey Department and prepare the draft plan considering the suggestions from the public.
As per his suggestion, a committee was formed the members of which are as
follows: Rohan Khaunte- ex officio, Sarpanch Gurunath Vernekar, Ganpat Siddhye, Sujeet Dongre, Auggi D’Mello, Gajanan Halarnkar,
Olava Brangaza, Robert D’Melo, Agnel Perreira and Blanc D’Souza.
It was decided that the committee should hold the meeting on Wednesday, September 25 to discuss the suggestions received from the general public and prepare the draft plan and place before the gram sabha to held on September 28 for approval.
Earlier the CEE of the Centre for Environment Education Sujeetkumar Dongre and Ganpat Siddhye explained in detail about Coastal Regulation Zone and Coastal Zone Management Plan.
