Stating he had been appointed in-charge of Mandrem constituency for the bypoll, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Saturday expressed confidence that the BJP would win seats in Shiroda and Mandrem constituencies with a good margin.
“We will very safely win both seats in Shiroda and Mandrem constituencies and with good margins. The public response is very good and I am in touch with people in both constituencies.”
“As a youth leader, I had worked across the state and so, my people are in all constituencies. These same people have met me and on basis of the feedback I received from them, I can say we will win with a good margin,” said Godinho, while speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a function in Chicalim.
“It is the work of the Opposition to spread rumours and show a different picture that it will be extremely difficult and that government has collapsed. The government is functional and works are taking place. In fact, we are taking up the inauguration of a new Panchayat Ghar in Mandrem,” said Godinho.
Asked if it would be easy for the BJP to elect a candidate against a former BJP chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar in his own constituency, Godinho said there was still time for the Mandrem bypoll.
“It is natural for someone to feel hurt in such a situation,” replied Godinho, when asked about Parsekar’s tirade against State party chief and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar.
“People say so many things, but ultimately they retract. Finally, everybody has to tow the party line and they have to follow party discipline.”
“In fact, I was the only MLA who never reacted to such situations. When I was an MLA in Cortalim, Matanhy Saldanha was being pushed forward by our own Congressmen, but I was confident of myself.”
“Even when he won, I was confident I would come back and I proved it by winning again in Cortalim. Perhaps, everybody does not have the same confidence,” Godinho added.
