“It is a self-governing body and there is no party affiliation towards any candidates, whoever wins the election and if they wish to support the Congress, then we will accept their support,” said Nunes.
Dabolim MLA and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho was unavailable for comments as his phone was switched off.  When contacted BJP Dabolim Block president Sadha Shetkar was contacted, he said the party has not floated any panel either in Chicalim or Bogmalo.
“We did not get involved even in the campaign to avoid any misunderstandings among other candidates and the party will accept whoever wins the election,” said Shetkar.
“Minister Godinho is also of the opinion that BJP workers should not campaign for any candidate and whoever wins will be accepted to work for the betterment of the village. Many candidates wanted us to support them, but as a policy we have decided not to support anyone to avoid confusion in future, which will affect the functioning of the panchayat,” said Shetkar.
