Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday assured maximum relief to the flood-affected people after stating that the floods had caused heavy losses in the State.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the Samadhi of Vidhyadeeraj Swamiji at Partagal Math, Sawant said he had visited Dharbandora before arriving at the Partagal Math.
“During my visit to Dharbandora, I was told that 100-150 houses in one area at Daukond alone were submerged by the floods. After their houses were flooded, almost all of them ran on the hill nearby and were stranded for 8-10 hours. PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar then had them rescued and brought them to a school, where they spent the night and went back to the village in the morning,” said Sawant, who was moved by their plight.
“Now, work to clean and remove the debris from their houses is in progress. They have suffered huge losses,” said Sawant.
Sawant said he had spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in connection with the floods.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modiji called up to enquire about the losses and wanted to know number of people affected. I informed them that we are still assessing the losses, but overall the affected houses could be anything above 4000-5000 houses,” said Sawant.
Asked about compensation to the flood-affected people, Sawant said: “We will provide maximum possible compensation. During similar situations in the past, we had provided compensation of Rs 1 lakh and above. We will also get some help from the Centre and as people have suffered huge losses, we will compensate them to the maximum possible.”
“While we are still struggling to overcome the Covid pandemic, it seems calamities keep coming but providing relief to the affected is the government’s responsibility and as chief minister it’s my duty and obligation to be with the people in such times.”
The chief minister praised the Partagal Jivottam Math for doing “very good and commendable services for the welfare of the people.”
