Five houses have collapsed leaving the families homeless while about 100 houses are now reported to have been damaged by the floods in Sattari on Friday.
The PWD is also hoping that water supply, which has been cut off since the last two days, would be restored to most parts by Sunday evening.
Teams from the Sattari deputy collector and the mamlatdar offices were assessing the damages on Saturday and so far, about 100 houses in the taluka have been reported damaged by heavy rains and severe floods.
Five houses collapsed at Khadki-Sattari and the families have been left homeless.
When contacted, local Sarpanch Santosh Gaonkar said the homeless families will be shifted to a nearby primary school.
“The panchayat will also provide pulses and essential supplies to the families,” said Gaonkar.
The Dabose Water Plant was submerged by the floods, cutting off water supply to most pasts of Sattari taluka.
Teams under the leadership of Assistant Engineer Soma Naik, Assistant Engineer (Water Supply Office) Prashant Gawde and Executive Engineer, Nayal, were working overtime since Friday to get the water plant back into operation.
“Water supply will be restored in the Valpoi municipal area by Saturday evening and in other villages by Sunday evening,” said Gawde.
Meanwhile, the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) surveyed the damaged areas in the municipality.
VMC Chairperson Sehzin Sheikh said efforts would be made by the council to provide compensation to the affected persons.
“A meeting will be convened shortly to discuss the issue,” said Shaikh.
