Meet opposes numbers to illegal houses

MARGAO
The Telaulim gram sabha on Sunday objected to the government’s decision to allot house numbers to illegal structures dotting the state countryside.

The members pointed out that the illegal encroachers will benefit from the government decision.

Sarpanch Estevan explained to the members that the decision to allot house numbers has come from the government and the panchayat has no say.

After much discussion, the gram sabha decided that the panchayat should allot the house numbers only in cases where there are no controversies. The Sarpanch informed that house numbers will not be allotted to structures, which are controversial and illegal. “We have decided to allot house numbers only if the structures have come up without violations”, he said.
