MARGAO
A group of members of the Sunni Jamatul Muslameen society led by Abdul Gafar Khan has on Thursday written a letter to the South Goa District Collector to intervene in the election process of the managing committee of the society to enable them to conduct the election process smoothly.
In the letter, Abdul Gafar has requested the District Collector to depute officials to control the law and order situation likely to arise at the Sunni Jamia Masjid, Malbhat, Margao on Friday noon.
Later briefing the media, Abdul Gaffar has feared that an unknown group may try to forcefully take over the management of the Masjid by creating law and order situation.
He pointed out that the office of the District Registrar and Inspector General of Societies has appointed Shiekh Abdul Riyaz as interim president by dissolving the old managing committee to assist and look after the forthcoming election process.
He further said the District Registrar had directed to the interim president Abdul Riyaz to start the election process of conducting the election of the new managing committee in a democratic way as per the bylaws of the society.
