Meta Platforms India Pvt Ltd on Wednesday informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that it will preserve the videos and other digital content stored on the blocked Instagram account of a Ponda-based social media influencer till the Grievance Appellate Committee decides his appeal against the account suspension.
The assurance came during the hearing of a petition filed by Harshad Hiru Naik, who sought the Court's intervention to prevent the permanent deletion of content from his Instagram account, which was blocked for alleged violation of the platform's community guidelines.
Naik had approached the High Court contending that Meta's policy provides for deletion of data from blocked accounts after 180 days of inactivity. He submitted that the deadline in his case is due to expire in September, raising the apprehension that six years' worth of videos and other digital content could be permanently erased before his appeal is decided.
Taking note of the urgency, the High Court had earlier issued notice to Meta and other respondents, observing that the petitioner's digital archive could be irretrievably lost if no interim protection was granted.
