MGNREGA wage hike: Goa sees steepest rise at 10.6%

PANAJI
The Union government has notified the new wage rates under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for 2024-25 with Goa getting the biggest hike of 10.6 per cent.

The Central government’s data reveals that workers in Goa will now receive the daily wage at Rs 356 with the wage in Haryana highest at Rs 374, and Kerala ranking third at Rs 346.

The records show that it’s Rs 34 hike per day in Goa increasing the cumulative figures to Rs 356 from Rs 322 in FY 2023-24. Those in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will only see a Rs 7 hike, the lowest ‘percentage hike’ among all states.

The new wage rate notification comes after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 86,000 crore for MGNREGA in the Budget Estimate for 2024-25.

In the fiscal year 2024-25 starting April 1, workers in 21 states will witness this wage increments ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 20 whereas Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Manipur, Rajasthan, and Sikkim will experience more modest increases in the early teen figures. Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have the lowest wages in the country at Rs 234 per day.
