Stating that the first chief minister, late Bahusaheb Bandodkar was the tallest leader in the State, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Mapusa Block, on Tuesday demanded that the third new bridge across River Mandovi be christened as the “Bahusaheb Bandodkar Bridge”.
“The first chief minister of Goa, late Bahusaheb Bandodkar has contributed a lot to the State. We want the new bridge across River Mandovi to be named after him. We have requested our leader and PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavlikar to convince the government to name the bridge as Bahusaheb Bandodkar Bridge,” said Vaman Pandit, President of MGP, Mapusa Block while addressing a news conference in Mapusa.
In another demand, the Mapusa Block of MGP has also urged the PWD minister Sudin Dhavlikar to take steps to shift the office of Bardez sub-registrar, excise office and the North Goa Education department office to the old Asilo hospital building which has been renovated.
“The old and aged people are facing hardship to climb the staircase of the sub-registrar office in order to execute their documents like sale deed, will, deed of succession etc. The lift which was not functioning for last seven years has been recently repaired but the same breaks down quite often,” Pandit said.
MGP leader, Balu Phadke emphasized the need to build a Ravindra Bhavan in Mapusa and suggested building it on land in Tivim which was initially acquired by Goa Cricket Association.
“An area of around
1.30 lakh sq mt in Tivim is with the government. It was earlier acquired by GCA to build a cricket stadium, which has now been shifted to another place. The government can build a state of the art Ravindra Bhavan in the area along with multiplex and other amenities,” Phadke said.
He also urged the Mapusa civic body to take up patch up work of dilapidated roads in various parts of Mapusa.
“We don’t want publicity but we want better facilities to the citizens of Mapusa. The councilors and other politicians can take credit for the work but ensure that basic amenities are provide to the people of Mapusa,” said Phadke, who unsuccessfully contested against the Mapusa MLA, Francisco D’Souza in the 2017 assembly polls.
The block also urged the PWD minister to take up construction of the new bus-stand in Mapusa on priority.
