Seeks amicable solution to inter-state water dispute

The State unit of BJP (Karnataka) has decided to make an all out attempt to find an amicable solution to the Mhadei dispute with the Goa govt. A decision to this effect was taken at the meeting that was held in Bangalore recently.
Announcing the party’s decision at a news conference at Hubbali on Sunday, leader of Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar said BJP leaders in Karnataka have sought an appointment with Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar this week to discuss the matter.
Shettar, former Karnataka chief minister said a BJP delegation would try to convince Goa chief minister about the need to settle the inter-state water dispute through talks rather than waiting for the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal to settle it.
“With no hopes of any legal solution in the near future, it is better that this dispute is settled through inter-state level talks. We are confident of convincing Goa chief minister to agree for an amicable solution to resolve this issue at the earliest,” Shettar said.
However, when asked about Parsekar’s earlier statements ruling out talks over the issue, Shettar who was optimistic, said there was not harm in making another attempt. The appointment with Parsekar was, however, not confirmed.
