Kalay Sarpanch Nayan Shelke said once water connection is given to the building, it will be made functional.
It may be recalled that the foundation stone for this new building was laid by South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar in 2014 and the project was completed by spending about Rs 20 lakh from the MPLAD fund. However, the infrastructure remained unutilised as there is no water connection to the sub health centre building.
Speaking to The Goan, Kalay Sarpanch Shelke said the project was build for the convenience of the local people, but there is hurdle of water connection.
She said in Dudhal and Kalay, residents face water supply problem and have to depend on water tankers. “The panchas have decided that once JICA water supply pipeline work is completed in Dudhal-Kalay area, we will immediately make the new sub health centre building operational.”
When contacted, Kalay Panch Kishor Dessai said the new sub health centre building has necessary infrastructure except water connection. “Areas like Kareymol, Pokharmol, Deulmol in Kalay Panchayat jurisdiction face acute water supply problem, as there is no water pipeline and residents are dependent on water tankers.”
He further said some time back, the panchas were planning to utilise tanker water for the sub health centre but officials from Health Department were not ready. “We also came to know that a PWD pipeline will be laid in Dudhal and administrative approval from finance section is pending,” said Dessai and added that he will write a letter to the health director.
“The new building is well built with better facilities, but it needs water connection. All possible efforts are being taken by panchas, but the government should give attention to this issue and work order for PWD water pipeline needs to be given soon by the government,” he added.
“The population of Kalay and nearby villages is about 5,000 and during medical emergency, they have to rush to Sanguem Primary Health Centre. Locals face problem at night to travel far and take medication from Sanguem PHC which is about 15 kms from Kalay,” he added.
