Alleging that the Home department and politicians are involved in the drug trade, former Minister Mickky Pacheco on Friday demanded a judicial probe into the politician-police-drug nexus to put an end to the narcotic trade and save the future generations.
Mickky also repeated his charge that BJP MLAs Michael Lobo and Vishnu Surya Wagh did not sign on the House committee report on the insistence of then Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar.
He also charged the opposition for the failure to corner the government on the drug peddling in the
state, accusing certain ruling politicians for their hand in the drug trade.
Addressing the media, Mickky said that only a judicial probe will help unearth the politician-police- drug nexus and break the backbone of the trade in the state. "The House Committee headed by me had done a meticulous job of going to the root of the issue, but the two BJP MLAs did not sign the report and Parrikar did not do anything to force them to sign the report," Mickky alleged.
He pointed out that Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar's promise to set up another House panel to
investigate the politician-police- drug nexus is just a sham, adding that nothing will come out of the
exercise when the government is known for U-turns. He expressed surprise that MLAs representing the coastal belt in North Goa have claimed no knowledge of drug peddling activities in their respective constituencies. "There's no point blaming the police every time. As MLAs, the elected representatives should also know what's going on in their constituencies.
Take the case of Parra village. When the MLA's wife was a panch member you mean to say that they did not know the people, including the foreigners staying in the village and their activities. That's not all."
"The north coastal belt were represented by all BJP MLAs during the last term. But, instead of targeting the big guys, the government and the police were content in arresting the small fry selling ganja," he said.
Mickky slammed the coalition partners as well as the opposition Congress for not raising their voice on the burning issue, saying the very future of the new generation is at stake.
Asked to substantiate his charge that the home department is allegedly involved in the drug trade,
Mickky said even the ruling party politicians and MLAs have accused the police for the drug trade. "This is the reason why I am asking for a judicial probe to bring out the true facts', he demanded.
