MARGAO
Moments after quitting his membership of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Mickky Pacheco announced his decision to field candidates in as many as 30 Assembly constituencies, saying his Goa Su-Raj Party will be open for an alliance with like-minded parties, but not with the BJP.
Mickky further asserted that he would contest the coming election on the Goa Su-Raj party from Nuvem, though he claimed his supporters wanted him to return to Benaulim.
After he resigned from the primary membership of the Goa Vikas Party on Wednesday evening, Mickky will formally embrace the Goa Su-Raj party headed by wife Viola on December 30 and is expected to unveil the first list of 15 candidates by early next week.
The former Nuvem legislator has cautioned the people of Goa not to support or back independent candidates, saying the BJP is desperately trying to extend support to independents to split the secular and non-BJP votes.
“Behind the scene attempts are being made by BJP leaders to lure certain politicians to contest the coming election as independents. People of Goa should be aware of these machinations and foil attempts to divide the secular and non-BJP votes through these independents,” he said, while making an appeal to the people to teach these politicians a befitting lesson.
Mickky told The Goan that Go Su-Raj Party will unveil its manifesto on December 30, which will outline the party’s plan and programmes for the people of Goa.
Claiming that the Congress, Goa Forward, NCP and Babush Monserrate’s party will forge an alliance in the coming election, Mickky said his party will fight the election on its own, saying many a ticket aspirant, who are unlikely to find favour with these parties, are in touch with him.
Incidentally, Mickky demanded that Zilla panchayat members and village sarpanchas, who intend to contest the coming election, should first resign from their positions before contesting elections for the legislative Assembly.
