While, the voting will be held along with the elections in Punjab on March 4, the counting will be held on March 11 after the conclusion of the last phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections leaving the State with a more than a month long ‘limbo’ period until the results are announced.
According to the schedule announced by the CIC, for Goa, the notification for the polls will be issued on January 11, the last date for filing nominations is January 18 while scrutiny of nominations will be completed on January 19 and the last day for withdrawal of nominations will be January 21.
The term of the legislative assembly of Goa is due to expire on March 18 this year and the new assembly will have to be sworn in before that date.
This leaves candidates with two weeks for campaigning once the nomination process is complete.
Flying squads to reach in 5 minutes
The CEO of Goa, Kunal has put in place a system where the flying squads of the Election Commission will be able to reach the point where a complaint has been made within five minutes of receiving the information.
“The functioning and operations of the flying squads and mobile teams shall be closely monitored using GPS tracking,” he added.
Addressing media persons in Panaji, after EC’s announcement in Delhi, Kunal said for the purpose of expenditure monitoring, while they initially thought that one squad would be stationed per constituency, they have decided to place the squads in such a way that they can reach the spot within five minutes of the filing of a complaint. “There will be live feed of what the flying squads are doing which will be beamed back to the control room,” Kunal said.
