The Legislative Assembly on Friday passed the Goa Mineral Development Corporation Bill, 2021 which empowers the State government to form a state-owned corporation to carry out mining operations in “orderly, scientific and ecologically sustainable manner.”
The Bill was passed by a voice vote in the absence of the Opposition benches as they boycotted the last part of Friday’s session in protest against the bulldozing of the bills and the refusal of the government and the Speaker Rajesh Patnekar to concede its demand to refer the legislations to a select committee.
The Bill aims to resume mining operations halted since 2018.
The bill also makes a provision to nominate two lawyers and chartered accountants to the Corporation’s BoD.
The establishment of the corporation will involve financial implication to a tune of Rs 5 crore.
