Introducing further strictures, the Directorate of Mines and Geology has mandated a five-minute gap between convoys of five mining trucks in a bid to decongest the roads of mining trucks.
A circular issued by the Director of Mines and Geology has decreed that only a batch of five trucks will be released per transit route with a gap of five minutes between each batch of trucks.
“It has been decided that for the remaining days of the season a batch of five trucks each per single route shall be given transit passes, who shall move in a convoy from loading point till the unloading point and from unloading point till further destination there shall be a gap of five minutes after the last transit pass of the fifth vehicle is generated or the last transit pass is cancelled at an unloading point as the case may be to ensure that free movement of other vehicles and commuters is not disturbed for at least five minutes at a time,” Director of Mines and Geology Prasanna Acharya said in his order.
The step has been taken “as a further confidence building measure and a step towards regulation of transport activity.”
The Mines department has also disallowed trucks to ply between 12.45 pm to 2 pm so as to avoid the parking of vehicles on road between 1 to 2 pm.
The measures were necessitated, according to the Directorate of Mines and Geology so that for streamlining transport of on road, so that least inconvenience is caused to the other commuters.
However, the department acknowledges that “despite taking various measures there are some bottlenecks because of which general public is made to suffer.”

PANAJI: The Department of Mines and Geology has reopened its Quepem office which was closed on account of a shutdown in mining back in 2012.
“After the accident at Tilamol, it was felt that unless the office at Quepem is not resumed there would be lack of coordination between office of Directorate of Mines Geology and other government departments in Quepem taluka where mining activities have started,” Director of Mines Prasanna Acharya has said in his order.
The Quepem office used to regulate mining activities in south Goa District more particularly the mines from Caurem and Revona Cluster And whereas, this office has undertaken regulatory measures which are to be enforced on ground effectively.
Assistant Geologist Sudhir Mandrekar and Nelita Fernandes, Assistant Geologist shall oversee mining related activities in Caurem and Revona cluster respectively.
Mandrekar shall also be responsible for attending complaints related to Minor Mineral in Canacona taluka, and Fernandes shall be in charge for minor mineral complaints in Quepem taluka.
