Unhappy with the assurance of BJP National President Amit Shah, the mining dependents have decided to revive the Goa Mining Peoples Front to chalk out new plans to press for their demands.
The mining dependents took this decision at a meeting in Ponda on Thursday and agreed to convene a meeting at Tisk-Usgao on May 20.
President of All Goa Truck Owners Association (AGTOA) Nilkant Gawas, President of Dharbandora Taluka Truck Owners Association Balaji alias Vinayak Gawas, President of All Goa Machinery Owners Association Sandip Parab and others were present on the occasion.
Sources informed the Goan that the home department has collected information of mining dependent leaders and some were summoned over a massive agitation in Panaji in March.
Unfazed by the administration’s actions, the leaders have decided to pursue all options to ensure the resumption of mining activity.
During his recent meeting in Goa, Amit Shah has said a resolution to the mining crisis would be pursued through the courts.
Responding to his assurances, the mining dependents lamented that nothing had been done by the government on the issue.
“We were assured that something would be done by May, but they have done nothing. Hence, we have convened a meeting in the Gomantak school hall at Tisk Usgao on May 20,” said a mining dependent leader on condition of anonymity.
“The Goa Mining Peoples Front, which was active before suspension of mining activities in 2012, will be revived and all will work under its banner to seek justice,” he added.
