Panaji Police issued summons to a second list of 16 accused asking them to remain present for questioning in connection with the incident of rioting and violence at the protests against mining closure staged at Panaji KTC Circle on March 19.
However, none of those who were summoned remained present before the police and skipped the summons without any notice to the police.
While the first list of accused includes 11 persons who were arrested on the same day, the second list includes Ravi Naik, Srikant Mishra, Pramod Sawant, Jason Noronha, Nitin Shirdonkar, Jagdish Desai, Narayan Pednekar, Prashant Dhargalkar, Pandurang Parab, Gajanan Sarnayak, Damodar Borkar, Nobel Dias, Namdev Samant, Dinesh Gaonkar, Noor Shaikh and Ravindra Tari.
Meanwhile, the police have included Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act, 2003 to the host of charges levelled against the 27 accused identified so far.
Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act refers to the offence of child abuse and states, “All children should be assured of a safe environment. A safe environment is an environment in which s/he will not be abused in any way and his or her development will be nurtured.”
The Goa Children’s Act was included in the FIR following a complaint by headmasters of certain schools based at the Cujira School complex that some school buses couldn’t reach home on time as they were stopped by the agitators.
It has been alleged that this caused trauma to the children, who were stranded for a long time on their way home.
