Sanguem MLA and Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phaldessai has made fresh moves to get the proposed IIT project back in Sanguem, with officials conducting an inspection of a site in the taluka on Wednesday morning.
While earlier there were apprehensions that the project would be set up in Uguem village, Phaldessai along with South Goa Collector Jyoti Kumari and other officials visited the same site at Cotarli village, where the project was earlier rejected by the farming community.
Sources informed The Goan that the government has proposed to set up the project only on government land measuring around 7.5 sq mtrs and has decided to set aside around 4 lakh sq mtrs of private land from Nagvem and Molcornem village, which was earlier proposed to acquire for the project.
Speaking to reporters after the site inspection, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai said the project will be finalised only after a meeting with all stakeholders.
“A meeting with stakeholders will take place at Shrison Plaza on Sunday. A separate meeting with party workers will be held on the same day to discuss the proposed project at Sanguem,” said Phaldessai.
Claiming that the project would be largely beneficial to everyone in Sanguem, Phaldessai assured that all stakeholders and those who will lose their income would be duly compensated during the acquisition process.
“The project will lead to new level of development of Sanguem constituency, which has remained undeveloped for decades. The project will mean a lot of job opportunities to locals and will also open vistas in the business sector,” added Phaldessai.
