Says green energy is the only alternative to coal

MARGAO
Asserting that the only answer to coal is the green energy, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Tuesday made a fervent plea to the people of Goa to install solar panels on every house rooftop to generate green energy.
“No one wants coal. Everyone is opposing coal. But, we have to understand that 75 per cent of the country’s thermal power needs are met from coal. This is a realty since we have no green energy. If we want to tide over the situation, every household should have a solar power panel on their roofs,” Dhavalikar said, while launching underground cabling in Cuncolim constituency on Tuesday in the presence of Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.
Saying that it is possible to reverse power generation from coal to green energy, the Power Minister said that green energy will get a boost only after each and every household comes forward and avail the solar panel scheme. “Just imagine if every household has a solar panel on their roofs. We the people of Goa can do it. We can show to the entire country by becoming the first State to go for green energy on a big scale,” he said.
He added: “Green energy is possible in Goa because the people of the State are educated and know the advantages of green energy. They can not only meet their domestic power requirements, but can sell the surplus power to the government and receive payments in their bank accounts.”
After inaugurating the underground cabling network in Cuncolim, the Power Minister recalled that he had given an assurance in the Legislative Assembly that he would ensure that the government would take up electricity infrastructure works amounting to Rs 60 crore in each of the 40 constituencies. “We have not only honoured the promise, but have taken up works exceeding the Rs 60 crore target,” he said.
In his address, Opposition leader Yuri Alemao thanked the Power Minister for executing the underground cabling works in Cuncolim constituency, exuding confidence that the Minister would complete the balance works proposed in the constituency.
