PWD min defends Mhaje Ghar Scheme amid rising opposition

Says Goans have made it a fashion to oppose projects

Strongly batting for the controversial Mhaje Ghar scheme, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat has slammed critics opposing the scheme, saying it has now become a fashion in Goa to oppose any and all projects in the State.

He said some people are even opposing educational projects such as the IIT which would help the youth to gain admissions in these prestigious institutions.

He said the scheme launched by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with a vision to end the hardships faced by the common man will be implemented by the government across the State. He has cautioned the people not to fall prey to agents swarming around to fool the people with duplicate forms, saying people should get the forms from the Mamlatdars, Deputy Collectors or from the offices of the MLAs.

Reminding that some people have gone to the Court to challenge the scheme for meant for the benefit of the common man, the PWD Minister said it has become a fashion to oppose anything and everything. “When I was the Chief Minister, people had opposed the National Institute of Technology (NIT) project. The project was delayed for years before it became a reality. The IIT is facing similar objections from the people. Such prestigious projects should have made the people proud instead of opposing them”, he said.

Referring to criticism that the Mhaje Ghar scheme is linked to the upcoming polls, Kamat said the government that works for the welfare of the society will always receive the blessings of the common man. “The time has come for the people of Goa to introspect what is good and bad for them and their future”, he added.
