Differences between Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude and Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar came to the fore on Wednesday when they made separate visits to inspect ongoing works at the Canacona Ravindra Bhavan and went on to make conflicting statements on the estimate period of completion.
After paying homage to UTAA martyr Mangesh Gaonkar at Ziltawadi-Gaondongrim, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude proceeded to Chaudi-Canacona and inspected construction work at the Ravindra Bhavan.
After inspecting the pace of work, the minister gave instructions to GSIDC officials to complete the work by August.
Shortly after Gaude left the site, Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar also went to inspect ongoing works at the Ravinda Bhavan. Speaking to journalists at the site, Tawadkar said the work would be completed only by September-October.
The Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona has missed a number of deadlines since the foundation stone for the project was laid in 2012 when Tawadkar was a minister.
Construction work, however, began just before the 2017 assembly elections and progressed at slow pace, with work coming to a virtual halt during the Covid pandemic. Work on the Ravindra Bhavan project was originally scheduled for completion in 2019, but work has continued till date.
Meanwhile, an internal rift between construction workers is likely to further affect the completion of work.
According to sources, workers, technicians and others have stopped the work at the Ravindra Bhavan project, following a fight between the workers who came for the construction of Ravindra Bhavan and an engineer.
In order to resolve the solution, a joint meeting with the labour leader and the engineer was convened by GSIDC officials on Wednesday.
