Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte issued strict directions to the police to come down heavily on hawkers and touts operating on the beach belt.
After he came across a couple of migrant hawkers on the Benaulim beach belt on Saturday, Khaunte said he felt ashamed that this had come to light during his visit to the beach belt.
While asking the police to crack a whip against the hawkers and touts on the beach, the Tourism Minister also pointed out that he has initiated a proposal wherein dedicated police is made available with the Tourism Department to keep hawkers and touts at bay and to ensure the safety and security of the tourists.
“We understand that the benefits of tourism should go to the locals and well to the youth. But, we cannot accept the presence of the hawker and touts on the beach belt. We will soon get a dedicated tourist police which will help to address the issues of hawkers, and the safety and security of the visitors,” he added.
