Transport Minister Mauvin Godhino on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day urged the opposition to unite in the fight against the pandemic and refrain from indulging in politics over Covid deaths.
Godinho speaking to reporters during a Statehood Day function at New Vaddem said that there was a lot of improvement in medical facilities and appealed to the people to get themselves admitted at an earlier stage to avoid complications
Godinho said that there was a huge improvement in the services offered at the Chicalim Sub District Hospital and all facilities that were not present are being made available
"The CM has given approval and we will soon have an operation theatre functional at Chicalim. We will also get an oxygen tank installed with a direct pipeline and there is no shortage of oxygen. We have seen improvement across all government hospitals as well in managing Covid." "I had raised issues of food supply in the Cabinet during the first wave and shortage of beds in the second wave and I am happy that things are improving after an initiative taken by CM Sawant and Health Minister to improvise and shore up medical facilities," said Godinho.
Godinho said that the strategic lockdown which has been extended to June 7, could be extended further if required for a break in transmission and also appealed to people to immediately get admitted to hospitals and avoid being hospitalized at the last moment
"We did not have sufficient beds and proper facilities in hospitals earlier and no one wanted to go to the hospitals then but now facilities have improved in a big way. Cases have started to decline due to improvement in medical facilities and a parallel strategic lockdown. I now want to tell the opposition not to do politics on pandemic to demoralize people who are already sad and throw doctors and health workers in a bad light when they work 24x7 to save lives," said Godinho.
"The opposition is become impatient and must at least wait till the elections are announced to do politics. The opposition must come with suggestions and help fight the pandemic. The opposition has stopped to its lowest level to do politics even on people who have died during this pandemic. I urge the opposition to take a vow and a firm decision on statehood day to unite and fight the pandemic first and help people and we can indulge in politics later," said Godinho.
