Huge queue of vehicles piled up on either sides of Bridge; Crash site cleared after 45 mins
The accident on the Zuari Bridge early Monday morning.
Motorists and commuters were held up in yet another major traffic jam for over an hour at Cortalim, following an accident between a tourist taxi car and a Tempo Traveller early Monday morning.
A huge queue of vehicles piled up on either sides of the Zuari Bridge and along roads between Vasco and Cortalim as well.
Traffic Police managed to control traffic and allow one-way movement on the Zuari bridge till a crane could be summoned to the site to clear and shift the vehicles off the bridge.
Finally after about 45 minutes, the crane managed to tow away both vehicles off the bridge and the traffic movement began at a very slow pace on either sides. The Traffic Police attached to Vasco police station began controlling the movement of vehicles at Cortalim circle and along the Zuari Bridge.
Speaking to the media, Vasco PI Shailesh Narvekar there was an accident between a Tempo Traveller and a tourist taxi car at around 6.45 am on the bridge near the Agassaim side.
“By the time we managed to tow the vehicles involved in the accident, there was a traffic jam. With the tourism season at its peak and office staff, there is always a rise in traffic and an accident at the bridge caused the traffic jam,” said Narvekar.
“We managed to deploy our staff at the site and the traffic jam lasted for about 45 minutes till the vehicles were cleared from the bridge. Accidents along this route are among the main causes of traffic jams and an accident on the bridge makes matters worse for us,” said Narvekar.
“However, the new Zuari bridge is likely to be opened for traffic soon and it will give a great relief to this issue,” added Narvekar.
