Mapusa police have booked a 49-year-old man and his 17-year-old son after the minor allegedly rode a motorcycle without a valid driving licence and knocked down a pedestrian at Bastora.
The accident occurred around 8.30 pm near the Ganesh immersion site at Bastora, when the motorcycle was being ridden from Mapusa towards Moira via Bastora.
According to the complaint filed by Mapusa police head constable Mahesh Mayekar, the motorcycle was registered in the name of the 49-year-old accused, identified as Jabiulla Jamal Aattar, a resident of Orda, Candolim.
Police alleged that Aattar knowingly and wilfully permitted his 17-year-old son, who did not possess a valid driving licence, to ride the motorcycle on a public road.
The minor allegedly rode the motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner without exercising proper care and caution.
On reaching the area near the Ganesh immersion site, the motorcycle allegedly collided with pedestrian Mantesh Gopal Chawan (38) of Porvorim.
Chawan sustained serious bodily injuries in the collision, while the minor rider also suffered injuries.
Mapusa police have registered the case under Sections 281, 125, 125(a) and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Sections 184, 180, 3, 4 and 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police have also initiated action against the vehicle owner for allegedly allowing a minor without a valid licence to ride the motorcycle. Notices are being issued in connection with the case.
