Miscreants cut the main hydraulic brake pipes as well as electrical wires of the truck involved in the garbage collection of Santa Cruz. The truck was parked at the open space outside the GMC hospital.

The incident was noticed on Monday morning by the supervisor Sachin when he found that the brakes were not working. Upon further investigation of the truck, he found that the electrical wires were also cut, side mirrors were stolen and the main mirror was damaged.

Upon learning of the incident, local MLA Tony Fernandes accompanied by the Santa Cruz panchayat authorities rushed to the site while at the same time informing about the incident to the Agassaim police.

Speaking to the media, Fernandes said the patience of everybody has run out as this is the sixth incident of tampering with the garbage truck, which is an attempt by opposition to scuttle the garbage collection drive in the village.

“First, three batteries with terminals were stolen and then, they cut the wet pipe filter. Later, they leaked the engine oil due to which truck broke down midway and now they have brake cables cut,” said Fernandes.

“It was a miracle that the supervisor noticed the incident on time. If the truck was driven down the steep slope, a major tragedy would have occurred and a life could have been lost,” the MLA went on to add and called it a dastardly act by cowards who don’t have the guts to openly challenge the ruling panchayat.

“We are not going to keep quite anymore. We will file a complaint against the accused as we have doubts of the involvement of two persons in the incidents,”

Fernandes added.

Acting sarpanch of Santa Cruz Indira Fernandes condemned the incident as a deliberate attempt to target garbage collection in the village.

Panchas Prasad Naik, Lawrence Rodrigues and others were present. Agassaim

PI Uday Gaude also visited

the site.

Meanwhile, the Santa Cruz panchayat has filed a complaint with the Agassaim police and provided names of two suspects who could be behind the incident.

In the complaint, the police have been urged to bring out the truth of the involvement of the masterminds behind the incidents.
