In an incident that has triggered shock and surprise in Chinchinim village, a beef shop was targeted by miscreants last night as they destroyed the beef meat stacked inside the refrigerator reportedly with petrol.
The beef shop located in the heart of Chinchinim market has been involved in the business of selling beef for the local residents and outside over the years.
The incident came to light in the wee hours of Thursday when the employees came to open the shop, only to find the door open.
The shop owner Nazir has reportedly informed the police that the miscreants damaged two CCTV cameras, one located inside the shop and outside as a result of which he could not lay his hand on the footage.
Nazir has pointed out that around 60 kilograms of beef meat which was stacked in the refrigerator for sale to the customers on the occasion of Bakri Eid was destroyed with petrol. “The miscreants have destroyed the meat by pouring petrol. I do not know why the miscreants had to destroy the beef”, he wondered.
Locals wondered the motive behind destroying the beef stacked inside the shop, demanding to know the exact motive behind the incident. “The police should investigate whether the miscreants had come with the intention to commit theft or the cause mischief by destroying the beef with petrol. We have not come such an incident in the village over the years”, remarked a local resident.
Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Tukaram Chawan, when contacted, said the owner have not given a formal complaint to the police for investigations.
A local resident, however, said the Cuncolim police as well as the district police should find out the exact motive behind the incident with the help of intelligence. “Even if the owner has not made a formal complaint with the police, it is the duty of the district police to find out the motive behind the incident. Let the police lay their hands on the CCTV footage of the shops and establishments in Chinchinim village and along the road to the village to unearth the true facts in the incident”, demanded another resident.
