Addressing the media, Mormugao taluka convenor of Congress party for the 2017 assembly election Sankalp Amonkar and the office bearers of Mormugao Congress Block Committee alleged that Naik is involved in corruption.
Amonkar stated that for the last four years, Naik had failed to carry out any development and is now involved in wooing voters as the 2017 assembly election is drawing near. “Naik has used the electricity department’s newly recruited staff to distribute goodies for Ganesh festival. If Naik was so concerned about his constituents, he should have carried out the development during the last four years, which he failed to do so,” alleged Amonkar.
“A doubt is being created in the minds of the voters why Naik became so generous at the fag end of his five-year tenure that made him to distribute goodies,” added Amonkar.
“As election is hardly six months away, Naik has started organising picnics. He sent hundreds of Mormugao youth for overnight picnics and also organised tournaments and the cost is borne by him,” stated Amonkar.
“I want to know how Naik can bear such huge expenses which runs into almost Rs 1 crore when he is not having any business,” Amonkar sought to know.
“The Mormugao Congress Block Committee will file a supplementary complaint with the Lokayukata and will also file complaints with the Vigilance Department and the State Chief Election Commission,” he said.
“We will also ask the CEC to include the expenditure of giving goodies, organising picnics and tournaments into Naik’s 2017 election expenses,” added Amonkar.
“Instead of rehabilitating traditional fishermen at Baina and Desterro, solving the problem of WISL workers and stopping coal dust pollution, Naik is involved in organising tournaments, picnics and distributing goodies to woo voters, in which they are not interested,” said Amonkar.
