Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has written a letter to government officials drawing their attention to the electricity poles dotting the Arlem junction-Borim stretch lying in a broken state.
Since he has been informed by PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral that as per the new streetlight policy the poles along with the maintenance have been handed over to the Goa Electricity Department (GED), Reginaldo has forwarded the request to the Chief Electrical Engineer of the GED to replace the poles.
“It is important to note that this arterial road connecting Salcete to Ponda, which passes through Raia and Camorlim in my Curtorim constituency, is accident-prone. In the past too, due to broken electricity poles, many road accidents involving speeding vehicles have occurred here resulting in deaths and casualties,” he said.
The Independent MLA said it is imperative that the grievance of “the broken electricity poles from Arlem junction to Borim” is redressed at the earliest as it will reduce accidents and minimise the inconvenience caused to the people while using this stretch of highway at night.
