MARGAO
Law Minister Nilesh Cabral has said the online registration of deeds, which is done through the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) site, will help the government to counter the threat of fabricated deeds.
He said that the government is committed to further developing this system so that in future, land scams do not take place through bogus documents.
Stating that social media often portrays politicians as demons, Cabral said politicians have many roles to play. “Though, as members of the legislative assembly, our chief function is to legislate, our considerable time is consumed by attending to day-to-day problems of the public. From helping somebody who is sick, to the construction of roads and gutters, we have to attend to all issues. We are always at the service of the public”, Cabral said at a function held at G R Kare College of Law, Margao.
Cabral was speaking after releasing the moot court problems for the State Level Dr Carmo D' Souza Memorial Moot Court Competition. The contest is hosted by the G R Kare College of Law Alumni Association.
He added: “Public should help us with constructive suggestions so that we can develop a robust system. The public should not only act as our critics but everyone should participate in strengthening the system to better governance.”
Speaking on the occasion, Adv Sanjit Dessai, president of the alumni association, explained that the competition aims to create awareness about local laws and socio-political issues, and a team of legal experts have drafted the problem to make the young students research such legislation.
Prof Dr Marian Pinheiro, former Dean, Faculty of Law, Goa University, who is the chairman of the organizing committee of the event, called upon the law students to devote their time to studying local laws of the State so that they are well prepared to join the law profession.
He said the moot problems and based on local Goan laws and also on the law of defection and by participating in the competition, the law students would get an opportunity to be accustomed to the relevant legislations.
