OLD GOA
Raising concern over irregular water supply to the villagers, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar issued stern warning to the Curca-Bambolim panchayat not to issue NOCs to mega projects till there is proper water supply to the locals.
Borkar was speaking at the Curca-Bambolim gram sabha, on Sunday, which was attended by a large number of villagers.
“During earlier times, people used to get proper water supply but now they are getting irregular water supply as the same is utilized by mega projects. I want to issue strict warning to the panchayat not to issue NOCs to mega projects in Curca village as the people have to suffer,” Borkar informed.
“I have already told PWD officials not to issue water supply to mega projects till the villagers get proper water supply. But they have informed me that the panchayats are issuing NOCs due to which they are releasing water to mega projects,” the MLA stated and urged the panchayat to pass a resolution to totally stop issuing NOCs for mega projects.
However, deputy sarpanch Marvin Gonsalves informed that the panchayat has not issued NOCs to mega projects in the village since the past two years.
“We have not given NOCs to mega projects in last two years but only to individual dwellings or houses,” Gonsalves added.
Not satisfied with the reply, MLA Borkar pointed out that several mega projects are being approved in the village and quipped whether these projects have no water supply.
Issues like construction of retaining wall on Bambolim beach, hill cutting, restoration of Curca spring, garbage management, etc were discussed at the gram sabha.
